My new website, unlockyourpossibility.com, goes live today, and for those of you who follow, you’ll see me talking a lot about “Possibility Bandits,” namely things that take away our possibilities. Things such as labels, which put us into neat little boxes that dictate our choices, or rules that tell us what we can or can’t do. You’ll also hear me encourage you to challenge your labels and rules, maybe even to cast them aside (gasp!)We’ve all heard that saying ‘rules were made to be broken.’ It’s the number one rule about rules. For some of us this is not easy to put into practice, because we’ve been taught from an early age that we have to be good girls (or boys) to earn approval and attention. For others, breaking the rules, or at least challenging them, is HOW we got attention, if not approval. Those are even some of our labels.Well, today is one of the days that I am grateful for one of my childhood labels – that of REBEL. Because if I had followed the rules, I’d be driving to a cubicle in an office building in Fresno today instead of driving to LA for a photo shoot with one of my best friends (who is also a very talented photographer) to take pictures for my site. I wouldn’t have met some of the most amazing people I’ve ever known through my coaching program, I wouldn’t have flown to Washington DC last year and met even more amazing people, including Matthew Goldfarb who has been instrumental in helping me find my voice and create my movement.Quite simply put, I wouldn’t launching a business that fills me with such passion and excitement. And I sure as hell wouldn’t be this happy.Because the rules said, “You are getting a divorce and you have to support yourself, so you have to go out and get a steady job; work full time instead of part time; you can’t make a living doing something you enjoy, that’s a pipe dream; you have to work for money.” (That, and “you belong in therapy.”) But I didn’t – couldn’t – go that route. So I guess, for me anyway, ‘rules were made to be broken’ is one rule I am totally down with. And I today I also wear my REBEL label proudly (thanks, Mom & Dad).Does that make me a hypocrite? Perhaps, and if so I’ll accept that label too.To connect with me more, please Like my Facebook Page!www.unlockyourpossibility.com
